‘Pee-wee’s Big Adventure’ turns 30 today (!!!) — and Pee-wee himself just shared some never-before-seen pics

Time flies by when we’ve got Pee-wee Herman around for company. Thirty years ago, on July 26th 1985, his first BIG movie was released, Pee-wee’s Big Adventure!! Can you believe it? Not only was it Pee-wee’s first outing on the big screen, but it also was the first feature-length film directed by Tim Burton. It’s crazy to think just how far Pee-wee, and Burton, have come over the last three decades.

Taking to his own personal Pee-wee Log today, Pee-wee not only mused about the film — he still think it “holds up today,” and we agree — he also shared some brand-new, 30 year old images from the production. As he writes, he made a yearbook scrapbook that he handed out to the cast and crew after filming was completely, and these images have never before been seen by anyone else. Are you ready for the best Pee-wee nostalgic trip of the week, in honor of his big 3-0?

These images look like they have been pulled from the best yearbook. First image up, we’ve got Pee-wee along with the two other writers for Big Adventure, Phil Hartman and  Michael Varhol, as they go over the script together.

The yearbook’s not complete without Dottie, of course. Here we have Burton, along with first assistant director Rob Cohen, and then E.G. Daily, making one of the best Dottie faces ever.

And the yearbook’s really not complete without another one of the movie’s stars, Pee-wee’s bike. Check out Pee-wee, ready for action, and Burton wearing the best checkered coat we’re probably ever going to see (but what was it like IN COLOR?)

You can check out the rest of Pee-wee’s yearbook images over on his website. As for us, we’re going to spend the rest of day re-binging a couple hundred episodes of Pee-wee’s Playhouse. It only seems fair, seeing as how it’s his birthday.
