The reason why a policeman pulled this driver over is making us emotional

There have been a lot of awful, saddening stories in the news this week, so we’ll take every little bit of goodness we can get. And thankfully, there are still tons of awesome and amazing good people in this world, and a Boston police officer happened to stumble upon one of them earlier this week. They pulled them over, and while it’s not really a great thing to get pulled over, the reason behind it is so heartwarming.

An officer in Brighton, one of Boston’s neighborhoods, happened to be driving around the city when another car pulled in front of him. That’s when the the police officer noticed the car’s license plate. It read, “PEACE.” (How this human snagged “PEACE” for his license plate before anyone else, we have no actual idea. But props, dude.)

As the Boston PD writes on their Facebook page, this unnamed officer had just been reading about a brand new statue at Bridgewater State University . The statue was created in the likeness of Martin Richard, one of the victims of the Boston Marathon Bombing back in 2013. The statue has Martin holding up a hand-drawn sign that says “PEACE.” For the Boston officer, this crazy peace coincidence was too much, and had to tell the driver ahead of him about it. So, he pulled the driver over.

“I was so impressed by the plate, I had to tell the operator. So, I pulled up next to the car and, before the operator could say anything, I said to him, ‘Listen, you’re not in trouble, I just wanted to tell you that I love your license plate,’” they write on the BPD page. The car’s operator, a man in his early-60s, replied back, “Thanks, I love it too.”
