Paul Ryan says Republicans definitely plan to defund Planned Parenthood by taking down Obamacare, and it’s beyond scary
During a news conference this afternoon, Paul Ryan announced intentions to deliver a crushing blow to Planned Parenthood. According to a CNN report, Ryan said that the Republicans are going to defund Planned Parenthood completely as a part of their plan to get rid of Obamacare. How? By stripping all federal funding for the organization. With this plan, the Republican Party plans to officially defund Planned Parenthood as an organization, and we’re pretty much freaking out right now.
We want to stop the Obama administration’s last-minute regulatory onslaught altogether. So the House just took action. pic.twitter.com/n2hc0bV5dF

The thing is that this isn’t even about an anti-abortion stance, as the Hyde Amendment already prevents federal money from going to abortion services. The only exception, CNN notes, is if they are needed to preserve the life of the mother or are caused by rape.
As Nancy Pelosi explained,
"This is a priority for the Republicans. So I just would like to speak individually to women across America: this is about respect for you, for your judgment about your personal decisions in terms of your reproductive needs, the size and timing of your family or the rest, not to be determined by the insurance company or by the Republican ideological right-wing caucus in the House of Representatives. So this is a very important occasion where we're pointing out very specifically what repeal of the [Affordable Care Act] will mean to woman."
That the Republican Party plans to officially defund Planned Parenthood is not at all without controversy.
Many are less than pleased about the move, and have taken to Twitter to express how defunding Planned Parenthood will harm their health.
Thanks @SpeakerRyan! 🖕🏻🖕🏻🖕🏻 https://t.co/IhX0eZ9rUa

@SpeakerRyan You're an evil man, Paul Ryan. You literally will put ideology before health of women and children. That is unAmerican.

@SpeakerRyan how is defunding PP doing right by the women of the USA? Where do you suggest millions of women who rely on it go for care?

People tried really hard to show support for Planned Parenthood this year. We shared what it’s really like to go to Planned Parenthood to prove how necessary it is. We donated to Planned Parenthood in Vice President Mike Pence’s name. And we became hopeful when President Obama tried to protect it forever. But the people who resent Obama’s legacy, and women, and the right to choose refuse to give up.
Now, the Republican Party plans to officially defund Planned Parenthood, and things aren’t looking so good after all.
