Because sometimes we can have nice things, it’s official — Patty Jenkins is directing “Wonder Woman 2”
Brace yourselves, Wonder Woman fans. Because we have some very exciting news for you. We knew that Patty Jenkins had been working on the script for the sequel, and that she was in negotiations to return to direct. Now, those negotiations — which would reportedly make Jenkins the highest-paid female director ever — have been finalized.
And Patty Jenkins is *officially* set to direct the Wonder Woman sequel.
Is this the best news ever, or is this the best news ever? According to Variety, Jenkins has, at last, closed a deal to get back in the director’s chair — and we couldn’t be more happy. The film is scheduled to hit theaters on December 13th, 2019, and will see Gal Gadot reprise her role as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman.
While the film’s release feels incredibly far away at this point, we will get to see Wonder Woman onscreen in the very near future.
She’ll appear in Justice League, which lands in theaters on November 17th, 2017. And, to hold you over, Jenkins has talked about what she’d like to do with a Wonder Woman sequel.
“The story will take place in the U.S., which I think is right, Jenkins said in April in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “She’s Wonder Woman. She’s got to come to America. It’s time.
We couldn’t agree more, but while we wait for official word on story details, we’ll revel in this amazing news. And cross our fingers for official word that Chris Pine will return as Steve Trevor. Because, hey, he could’ve survived that explosion — or there are always flashbacks.
