The trailer for Patty Jenkins’ new TV show is eerie, intense, and includes a shirtless Chris Pine

Chris Pine’s 2019 Emmy campaign has officially begun. The Wonder Woman star and director Patty Jenkins may be hard at work shooting the sequel to the blockbuster superhero movie, but the trailer for their dark new TNT series was just released and it looks straight-up wild.

The period noir series, I Am The Night, follows teen Fauna Hodel, who after discovering she was given up at birth begins looking into her mysterious past and discovers that it’s full of dark secrets connecting her to one of Hollywood’s most notorious crimes. The noir series is based on actual events associated with the scandal-ridden life of Hollywood gynecologist George Hodel. A sinister suspect in the grisly 1947 murder of Elizabeth Short — aka the still-unsolved Black Dahlia murder case — Hodel was later notoriously acquitted in a sexual abuse case brought on by his teenage daughter, Tamar.

In the series, Pine stars as Jay Singletary, a marine turned paparazzo/reporter determined to learn the truth about the Hodel case. Considering the real-life creepiness of George Hodel and the mystery surrounding the Black Dahlia murder, we cannot even begin to imagine how chilling this series will get.

While unfortunately it appears Pine will be sans-fanny pack in I Am The Night — it is the ’60s, after all — the trailer promises the series will be dramatic, slightly conspiratorial, and very dark.

This looks really good but very, very sinister and we’re already a little scared. The series also stars India Eisley, Jefferson Mays, Leland Orser, Dylan Smith, Yul Vasquez, and Jay Paulson. Jenkins is set to direct at least the first two episodes, while her husband, Sam Sheridan, is writing the series. Jenkins, Sheridan, and Pine also serve as executive producers on the six-episode limited series.

While the series will 100% be giving us nightmares, it’s the perfect project to hold us over while we wait for Wonder Woman 1984 to hit theaters in November 2019. That’s right, two Patty Jenkins and Chris Pine collaborations in one year. What a gift!

I Am The Night is set to premiere on TNT in January 2019. Plenty of time to get campaigning.
