How do we feel about these new party cups that tell people if you’re single?

We’re all for anything that makes being at parties a little less awkward, but we’re not sure if these party cups will do the trick. A Kickstarter created by entrepreneur Michael Marrin (and discovered by Cosmopolitan.com) boasts that these cups will revolutionize the way we party by letting people know our names and if we’re single — and it’s already raised $13,056.

There are some definite advantages to this product. Being able to mark a cup with your name definitely keeps things safer and cleaner at parties, and advertising your relationship status can be a good way to get conversations started, or end any uncomfortable interactions before they begin.

Let’s take a look at the description and break down exactly what this product is:

Translation: it’s a cup.

Translation: you can write on the cup.

Translation: you can write on the cup with your finger.

The only thing that makes this cup unique is the ability to write on the designated space without a pen — simply use your finger to leave a mark. All this stuff in the description about the special “technology” and “social media” that comes with the cups is kind of bogus — say it with me: it’s a cup!

That’s not to say it’s a bad idea — one you can replicate at your next party by simply using regular disposable cups and a pen. While you won’t have access to any of the Kickstarter perks (like spending $1,800 to have this guy bartend your party), you will have solved most of the problems that inspired this creation in the first place.

We wish this Kickstarter the best of luck, but we think we’re good on cups.
