This ‘Parks and Rec’ star helped one couple make an awesome pregnancy announcement

In this social-media-powered world we live in, it’s safe to say we see a lot of engagement, wedding, pregnancy, birth, etc. announcements – especially when we’re around a certain age. And while we’re STOKED for our friends and family reaching these momentous occasions in their lives, sometimes it’s hard not to wonder, “What the heck am I going to do? HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO ONE-UP THIS?” Well, we have some good news: We can all just stop trying, because Katie Mitchell and Jack Blunden of Bradley Beach, N.J. have won all the social-media-announcement games.

At a wedding they attended for a mutual friend in New York City earlier this month, Mitchell and Blunden spotted Retta, who is known for her portrayal as Donna Meagle on Parks and Recreation, in the pews during the ceremony. During the reception, the couple, who are huge Parks and Rec fans, couldn’t resist asking for her help in announcing Mitchell’s pregnancy to their family and friends.

And the ever-awesome Retta delivered big-time, even taking the phone and turning it onto selfie mode when the original photo came out too dark for anyone viewing it to be able to read the sign. The final product?

And though the end result was obviously glorious, getting to that point wasn’t all rainbows and unicorns.

“We kept having to hide the sign and pretend we were just taking a normal picture, because people we knew kept walking passed us!” Mitchell told HelloGiggles of the experience.

The couple, who were married two months ago in a private ceremony while on vacation in New Orleans, La., were having a hard time deciding on a unique-yet-non-corny way to announce their newest big news, and had nothing but great things to say about how nice Retta was when they asked for her help.

“The picture was perfect and she was the coolest,” adds Mitchell, who is 19 weeks pregnant and says she and Blunden will be leaving the sex of the baby a surprise until his or her birth. “I was so excited to finally have the best way to announce the news!”

Congratulations, Katie and Jack! May your little one’s first words be “treat” and/or “yo’self.”
