A Parkland student is calling out the NRA so hard with this epic parody commercial
Since the deadly shooting in February in Parkland, Florida, the students who survived have emerged as some of the nation’s fiercest advocates for gun control. They have given stirring speeches and eloquent interviews. They have organized a national March for Our Lives. And, most recently, one of the Parkland students, Sarah Chadwick, clapped back hard at an NRA ad, creating a spot-on parody of the video.
The original ad, which first aired on NRATV on March 4th, features NRA spokeswoman Dana Loesch calling out “every lying member of the media,” “every Hollywood phony,” and “role model athletes who use their free speech to alter and undermine” the meaning of the American flag. After listing all of the people whom she feels have wronged the country, Loesch flips an hourglass and declares, “Your time is running out.”
Chadwick released her own parody of the video on Twitter on March 6th, meticulously recreating the details of Loesch’s ad in order to mock the NRA and call for gun control. In her video, she rattles off a list of people like Loesch does, but she focuses on those who have prevented gun control reform such as “every government official unwilling to take action and make change,” and “everyone with an A-plus rating from the National Rifle Association.”
"To every spokeswoman who uses her free speech to alter and undermine what our flag represents, your time is running out," Chadwick concludes, as she flips an hourglass.
Chadwick’s “ad” also promoted the March for Our Lives on March 24th. She wore a shirt emblazoned with the name of the protest, and at the end of the video the date of the march scrolled across the screen.
Here are the two videos for comparison.

Chadwick isn’t the only member of the Parkland community who has criticized the ad. Fred Guttenberg, who lost his daughter Jaime in the shooting, used the video to speak against the NRA at a meeting with U.S. senators on March 7th.
"If this was put out by a terrorist organization, we would be raising the threat level in this country," Guttenberg said of the video.
Chadwick’s parody perfectly captures the tone of the NRA ad and uses its structure to call attention to her cause. We never cease to be amazed by the Parkland students’ activism, and we will continue to fight with them for gun control reform.
