Plenty of famous manes have signed on to become Pantene spokespeople—the iconic hair care brand has tapped everyone from Selena Gomez to Priyanka Chopra and Ronda Rousey in recent years. Pantene’s latest hair model has an equally gorgeous head of hair…and she just celebrated her first birthday last month. Yes, really.
Baby Chanco, a little girl from Japan, went viral in 2018 due to her seriously lush brunette mane, and just weeks after turning one on December 23rd, she landed her first big-time modeling gig as the brand’s newest spokesperson (er, spokesbaby?). According to P&G’s Japan Hair Care Associate Brand Director Yoshiaki Okura, the company saw a People magazine story about baby Chanco and “went straight to her mother because Chanco’s personality and special character matches our image for women we want to support.”
Chanco made her official Pantene debut on January 7th alongside Japanese television announcer Sato Kondo in a campaign targeted to women who “want to be positive and make a new start through their hair,” says Okura. He added, “We feel [Chanco’s] beautiful hair has strong power that makes people positively move forward.”
Baby Chanco also appears in a new video ad for Pantene, aptly titled “The Hairy Tale.”
As for whether or not baby Chanco’s mom, Mami Kano, plans to change her hairstyle anytime soon, she says, “I prefer to keep her hair long, and in the future I want to try some new arrangements, like braids.” As for the key to maintaining those gorgeous tresses? Kano says, “Brushing and just let her live as she is.”
That’s a motto we can all work with.
