OMG! One of the original “Mary Poppins” stars will actually be in the sequel

We were beside ourselves with excitement when we first heard the news about Mary Poppins getting a reboot. And when Emily Blunt and Lin-Manuel Miranda confirmed their starring roles in the film, we had more reasons to celebrate.

But now that we’ve learned Dick Van Dyke will return in the Mary Poppins reboot, we actually don’t know how to handle so much happiness.

The Hollywood Reporter just confirmed Van Dyke’s return to the movie. In a larger piece about iconic stars who continue to work well into their winter years, they focus a section on the almost 91-year-old Dick Van Dyke.

Van Dyke, of course, played the lovable Bert in the original 1964 movie.

While both Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke previously expressed support for the new film, neither one had confirmed having any specific role in it.

Until now.

The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Van Dyke was excited about his upcoming role and talented people he’ll be working with.

He said, "This [movie] supposedly takes place 20 years later and the kids are all grown up. It's a great cast — Meryl Streep, Angela Lansbury and that guy [Lin-Manuel Miranda] from Hamilton."

Adding Van Dyke to this already stacked cast leaves us seriously speechless.

Van Dyke actually played two roles in Mary Poppins. He’s best known as Bert, obviously. But he also had a cameo as Mr. Dawes Senior, a grumpy old banker. He was actually credited as “Navckid Keyd,” a jumbled variation of his real name.

Needless to say, he’s willing to play any role as long as he’s having fun.

We can only imagine the creative and delightful ways he’ll steal the screen in this upcoming sequel, Mary Poppins Returns. Though it won’t come out until Christmas of 2018, we have no doubt it will be well worth the wait.
