Ordering Girl Scout cookies just got way easier
The days of young ladies standing outside of supermarkets and going door-to-door selling endless boxes of Thin Mints and Peanut Butter Patties are in the past as The Girl Scouts move into the digital age! Well, you’ll still see your fave cookie-selling gals outside the grocery store and in your neighborhood, but if you don’t feel like dealing with cash and making decisions on the spot, you will soon have the option to use an app. Because welcome to the future.
The Girl Scouts believe that this is a wonderful opportunity to teach young girls how to use today’s digital tools, leading them to be the world’s future business leaders! The CEO of Girl Scouts of the USA shared her thoughts on the digital expansion recently at a press event. “It’s about encouraging the science of play,” said CEO Anna Maria Chavez.
The cookies now can be sold on mobile apps and the girls’ own personalized websites. This push for a stronger presence digitally comes on the heels of a quick decline of membership for Girl Scouts. By implementing such cool things for the girls (like a personalized digital dashboard to track cookie sale progress as well as games and quizzes), the company is hoping the girls will be more engaged.
Despite declining numbers and an uncertain future for the company, The Girl Scouts are sticking to their guns. You may remember this summer when they were offered a $100,000 dollar donation under the condition that they no longer allow transgender girls into their organization. Girl Scouts turned down the offer, and instead of asking the donor to reconsider their stipulation, they started an Indiegogo campaign.
“Girl Scouts is for every girl,” Megan Ferland, CEO of the Girl Scouts of Western Washington shared with the Seattle Met, “And every girl should have the opportunity to be a Girl Scout if she wants to.”
Way to go, Girl Scouts! We sincerely hope that these efforts start helping membership climb once more!
