“Orange is the New Black” might end after Season 7, and we’re crying already

Throughout the past four seasons of Orange is the New Black, we’ve embarked on a crazy journey with some incredibly memorable characters. But, the end of those storylines might be near, according to a New York Times interview with show creator Jenji Kohan.

Specifically, Kohan admits that it all could come to an end with Season 7, which is how many seasons the show is currently guaranteed.

Our hearts are actually broken right now.

"I haven’t made a final decision yet, but I’m leaning toward ending it after seven — although the nature of the show is one that can go on and on because you can bring in new people," she told the outlet, adding that she has an ending in mind, but was unwilling to share.

But, wait, there’s still hope for more — and this is by no means a confirmation that it will end after seven. It just might end after seven.

On the upside, we’re only mere hours away from the Season 5 premiere on June 9 (tomorrow!!!). So, there’s still plenty in store. And since Season 4 ended on an intense – and tragic – cliffhanger, there’s no doubt a lot will be going down.

In the interview, Kohan spoke of how the upcoming season will slow way down to explore the fallout from Poussey’s heart-wrenching death.

Additionally, part of the reason the show chose to lose Poussey was because of how universally loved her character was.

Kohan explained, "We felt her death would be the most affecting for the audience...we built this character who had hope and promise, and extinguishing that light would be the most devastating."

The entire 13-episode season of Orange will take place over only three days. Needless to say, those are going to be some action-packed days.
