Orange Is the New Black is officially ending, and Twitter has feelings
Prepare to say goodbye to the ladies of Litchfield for good, because Orange Is the New Black is officially coming to an end. Yesterday, October 17th, it was announced that the acclaimed Netflix series will end after its upcoming seventh season. The announcement came by way of a video from the cast posted to the show’s official Twitter page:

“After seven seasons, it’s time to be released from prison. I will miss all the badass ladies of Litchfield and the incredible crew we’ve worked with. My heart is orange but fade to black,” series creator Jenji Kohan said in a statement to Deadline.
While the decision to say goodbye to the beloved series was only just revealed, there’s been rumblings that the show would come to an end with Season 7 for some time. In an interview with the New York Times last year ahead of the release of Season 5, Kohan hinted that Season 7 would be the show’s last, saying, “I haven’t made a final decision yet, but I’m leaning toward ending it after seven.”
Following Season 5’s three-day riot at Litchfield, which occurred in response to the death of fan-favorite Poussey Washington (Samira Wiley) at the hands of a corrections officer, Season 6 caught up with many of the major characters in the nearby maximum security prison. In the shocking season finale, Piper Chapman (Taylor Schilling) was released, potentially setting the series up for its final season with Piper re-adjusting to life on the outside.
However, fans aren’t quite ready to let the series go, taking to Twitter to share their feelings:

Luckily, we have plenty of time to at least try to prepare for the end: the final season of OITNB is expected to be released in the summer of 2019.
