Oprah is apparently thinking about running for president — and this is not a drill!

After the 2016 presidential election, Donald Trump proved that anyone, regardless of political experience, can successfully run for the highest office in the United States. And now, after she gave a rousing speech at the Golden Globes, word on the street is that Oprah running for president might become a reality.

Two of Oprah’s close friends told CNN today, January 8th, that the actress and former talk show host is “actively thinking” about running for president. One source told CNN that, although Oprah hasn’t decided for sure yet, she has been talking about a potential campaign for months. Winfrey’s significant other, Stedman Graham, said he felt a presidential candidacy for Oprah might soon become a reality.

"It's up to the people," Graham told the Los Angeles Times. "She would absolutely do it."

Oprah took the stage at the Golden Globe Awards last night, January 7th, as the first black woman to accept the prestigious Cecil B. DeMille Award. In her emotional address, Oprah touched on the #MeToo movement and spoke about the importance of fighting for equality and justice.

"I want all the girls watching here and now to know that a new day is on the horizon," she said, to thunderous applause.

The moving speech resonated with Twitter, and many users called (whether seriously or not) for Oprah to run for election in 2020. The hashtag #OprahforPresident was soon trending.

This isn’t the first time presidential campaign rumors have spread about the former talk show host. But Oprah has denied her desire to hold public office at least once before. In June, she told The Hollywood Reporter that she had no interest in the presidency.

We won’t know for sure whether or not Oprah will run until after this year’s midterm elections. But we definitely wouldn’t be opposed to seeing her on the ballot.
