Book club alert: Oprah’s writing a memoir—but wait, there’s more!
*rings bell* Hear ye! Hear ye! Queen Oprah has an announcement: she is writing a memoir.
A memoir is like the best kind of diary, one that’s filled with a rich history, keen moments of wisdom, and the belief that our stories matter in a greater context. Now, we have a feeling that Oprah has a pretty awesome diary, so her forthcoming memoir is bound (literally) to be a five-star ordeal.
For those who love to keep Must Read lists, Oprah’s memoir already has a title: The Life You Want. So you can add it to your 2017 section (if you’re that forward-thinking), since it will be published during January of that year by Macmillan’s offshoot Flatiron Books. Con: we have a year of waiting and expectation before us. Pro: we have a whole year to get excited for its release! In the meantime, we can have fun imagining what Oprah will delight readers with amidst her publication’s pages.
“All of my experiences, even the painful ones, have been there to teach me something about life,” stated Ms. Winfrey. “I’m still learning and I hope my story inspires other people to live the highest, fullest expression of themselves.”
Not only has Oprah lived a life that’s memoir-worthy, she’s also an avid reader who knows what it takes to make agood book great. I mean, who hasn’t heard of Oprah’s Book Club (which has helped sell millions of books)? In the past, she’s recommended some absolutely incredible novels like Cheryl Strayed’s Wild, Eckhart Tolle’s A New Earth, Toni Morrison’s The Bluest Eye, John Steinbeck’s East of Eden, and so many other stories we wouldn’t mind reading late into the night. Based on her impressive list of faves, Oprah definitely has a plethora of literary inspiration before her.
Speaking of literary inspiration, we have additional, great, Oprah-related news! As part of the book deal, Oprah will be starting her own publishing imprint at Macmillan. Her soon-to-be line of literature will revolve around nonfiction, publishing a handful of titles every year.
“We’re deeply honored to publish The Life You Want, which is such a remarkable combination of Oprah’s life story and the lessons we can all draw from it for our personal growth,” said Flatiron Books’ president and publisher Bob Miller. “We’re also thrilled to give a home to Oprah’s imprint titles. We all know how extraordinary Oprah’s instincts are when it comes to choosing books, instincts borne of her lifelong love of reading and the power of the written word.”
To prepare for Oprah’s momentous book release, we’re going to re-read Oprah’s 2014 book What I Know for Sure, which contains a collection of columns from her magazine. And once we finish with that, we’re going to tackle the books we haven’t yet read from her Book Club.
We, without a doubt, will never get tired of Ms. Oprah Winfrey and all her book-based ventures.
