You will never again question Oprah’s acting abilities after watching this movie trailer
To call Oprah Winfrey a powerhouse of a woman is truly an understatement. She’s a talkshow host, a media industry mogul, and a charitable billionaire. And of course, on top of all that, she’s a brilliant actress. If you’ve ever questioned Oprah’s acting abilities (and we’re not sure why you would, but…) this movie trailer will certainly change your mind.
Oprah stars in the HBO adaptation of the award-winning book The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot. She plays Deborah Lacks, daughter of Henrietta, who is seeking her mother’s recognition from the science community for Henrietta’s unknowing contribution to massive medical breakthroughs.

The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks is a true story about how Henrietta’s cervical cancer cells were harvested without her knowledge in the 1950s. According to Skloot, these cells were used by scientists to develop “the polio vaccine, cloning, gene mapping, in vitro fertilization, and more.”
Henrietta was never acknowledged or credited for any of these breakthroughs, and her family remains poor and unable to afford their own health insurance.
Skloot writes on her website, "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks tells a riveting story of the collision between ethics, race, and medicine; of scientific discovery and faith healing; and of a daughter consumed with questions about the mother she never knew."
Oprah will be joined onscreen by Rose Byrne as Rebecca Skloot, and Reneé Elise Goldsberry as Henrietta Lacks.
