Apparently, these are the best opening chats when you’re online dating

If you’re one of the many daters staring at your phone right now unsure of what to possibly say to a stranger in order to start a breezy conversation on a dating app, drop your emojis because we may have some answers.

Thanks to a little digging from the dating app, Hinge — the one that connects people who are friends of friends on Facebook — we have some nuggets of wisdom that will hopefully get you from chat to cheers-ing. In a month-long attempt to discern the most effective conversation starters, they found out some juicy stuff. For starters, women are, “40% more likely than men to respond to openers that are food-related.” And when it comes to the dudes, they’re more likely to respond to direct messages such as, “Drinks this week?” (In fact this kind of opener had a 98% stronger response rate for men. 98%!)

As a part of their experiment, they crafted over 100 unique conversation-starters that a percentage of Hinge users were given access to and then analyzed the success rate — with pre-written messages such as, ”Who’s your go-to Mario Kart character?” and “Choose: adult treehouse or the ability to talk to animals.” The report even made a map of the top openers per city (Hinge is available in 34 U.S. cities and 4 abroad).

Of course, response successes varied by age as well:

For ages 18-23 the opening-line winner was: “Pain reliever personality: Advil, Tylenol, or complaining?” For 24-28 year olds, the convo starter that sparked the most response had to do with lifestyle.

Hinge users aged 29-34 liked personal questions like, “Two truths and a lie; ready, set, go!”

And the 35+ers were drawn to pop culture references.

So, as you go forth into your online dating life, try out of some of these tips. Hopefully now you can officially retire, “Happy Friday!” and “Heyy” from your bag of tricks.
