One Direction’s final music video takes a trip down memory lane

As if One Direction wasn’t already hurting our hearts with their hiatus, they’ve gone ahead and released a music video for their hit song “History” that’s filled with the feels. While the song initially seemed like the boys looking back on a romantic relationship, pairing it with clips of their rise to fame and all the good times they’ve had as a band changes the meaning entirely.

The chorus is particularly poignant, almost directly speaking to their success:

By the time we hear, “This is not the end, this is not the end, we can make it you know it, you know,” it feels like they released this music video specifically to calm our worries about the hiatus and their unknown future.

Whatever the meaning, we’re grateful that we got one last music video before it’s time to say goodbye, even if it’s just goodbye for now.
