One Billion Rising: V-Day
Eve Ensler is the brilliant woman who wrote The Vagina Monologues in 1996. The play has been translated into 48 languages and performed in 140 countries. Her experience performing The Vagina Monologues inspired her to found V-Day in 1998. V-Day is non profit organization based in California that has created “a global movement to stop violence against women and girls. V-Day is a catalyst that promotes creative events to increase awareness, raise money, and revitalize the spirit of existing anti-violence organizations. V-Day generates broader attention for the fight to stop violence against women and girls, including rape, battery, incest, female genital mutilation (FGM), and sex slavery.”
This Valentine’s Day will mark V-Day’s 15th anniversary. To celebrate, V-Day launched a global campaign called ONE BILLION RISING.
