OMG: The new iOS will finally let us delete all those apps we don’t want

If you’re anything like me, you likely have a folder on your phone, hidden away on some faraway screen, filled with iPhone apps that, for whatever reason, you simply cannot delete. They’re the scourge of your otherwise neatly organized phone. The one book upside down on an otherwise perfect shelf. The piece of hair in your bangs that you cut just a little too short.

However, iOS 10 was just announced at WWDC 2016, and when iOS 10 is released, Apple iPhone and iPad users will finally be set free from this conundrum — that’s right, at long last, we’ll be able to delete the stock apps (including the stocks app!) that we don’t want on our phone. Of course, we’ll always be able to download them again later if we choose, should we miss seeing the little Maps icon (though, personally, I use Google Maps) or the little Tips lightbulb, but chances are, we’ll all be saying, “Good riddance!” to most of them.

Apple has conveniently set up a help page to walk us through the steps of removing built in apps, and it includes a list of which apps we will be able to remove (unfortunately, it looks like Game Center is not on that list, at least for now):

They’re testing beta versions right now, and it won’t be too long before the public version is widely released in late summer/early fall.
