OMG – Harley Quinn is getting her own spin-off!
ALL OUR PRAYERS HAVE BEEN ANSWERED! Harley Quinn is getting her own film and we couldn’t be MORE excited.
After blowing out socks off with her turn as the super villain in the much maligned Suicide Squad (we loved it, tbh), it seems that Margot Robbie (queen) has signed a first-look producing deal with Warner Bros., which includes a spin-off movie about her character Harley Quinn.
The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that the 26-year-old would be starring and co-producing the upcoming all-female heroes and villains movie, which is said to feature the likes of Bat Girl, the Birds of Prey, and, of course, Harley Quinn.
The upcoming film is the second female-focused superhero movie to be developed by Warner Bros., coming hot on the heels of next year’s hotly anticipated Wonder Woman movie, which is itself being directed by a female director, Patty Jenkins.
"It's a story about a girl becoming a woman. I think only a woman can be able to tell the story in the right way," said Gal Gadot, who plays the titular character Wonder Woman, about the choice for a female director. "She's also brilliant, she's bright, she's fierce, she's sharp. She knows exactly what she wants Wonder Woman to be."

As THR reports, Warner Brothers have recently embarked on a new initiative to focus on female-fronted storytelling, with the studio recently launching their Emerging Film Directors Workshop, which aims to help increase female and minority voices in the film industry.
The studio recently announced an all female re-boot of the popular Oceans 11 franchise, with a cast that boasts the likes of Mindy Kaling, Anne Hathaway, Rihanna, Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Helena Bonham Carter, and rapper/comedian Awkwafina.
Meanwhile, Margot Robbie is just finishing off the first film she’s producing under the deal, the upcoming neo-noir thriller Terminal.
