OMG! Blair Waldorf Is Dating Seth Cohen!
In the most exciting celebrity gossip news I have heard all year, and also possibly ever, Leighton Meester (aka Blair Waldorf) is dating Adam Brody (the one and only Seth Cohen). After a rocky 2012 that saw the end of Amy Poehler and Will Arnett, as well as Seal and Heidi Klum, my faith in celebrity relationships was shaken, but this completely perfect pairing has restored my faith, at least for now. The two Josh Schwarz show alums met on the set of The Oranges, a movie I had previously never heard of but will now definitely have to watch. (Also, the supporting cast includes Allison Janney and Alia Shakwat, which gives me high hopes.)
Obviously Leighton and Adam are real people with personalities quite different from those of their characters, but this news got me thinking – if Blair Waldorf met Seth Cohen, would they have dated? I always thought Blair could have benefited from a boyfriend a little more wholesome than Chuck, and I think Seth would have fit the bill perfectly. His laid back West Coast attitude could have helped mellow out her New York neuroses. While Newport Beach isn’t the Upper East Side or Monaco, I think Seth’s OC upbringing would have been snooty enough to meet Blair’s standards, and we all know Seth has a penchant for slightly superficial brunettes. Plus, they both love holidays – Blair’s obsessed with Thanksgiving, and Seth invented Chrismukkah. But these two aren’t the only OC-Gossip Girl crossover couple I think would have had a chance at making it work…
What if Serena had followed through with her plan to move to California? I think it’s pretty much inevitable that she would have run into everyone’s favorite outsider, Ryan Atwood. Ryan’s not a complicated guy, which would be a relief after six years of listening to Dan Humphrey overthink everything, and Serena’s bubbliness would offset Ryan’s brooding. I think these two would have had a very happy life together, living on the beach and raising a lot of very blonde children.
Had Marissa Cooper ever traveled to New York instead of being taken out in a car crash, I think she would have hit it off with Chuck Bass. Marisa has a thing for bad boys with family issues, so Chuck’s pretty much perfect for her. Plus, rich kids with moderate drinking problems need to stick together.
As for Summer, her romantic attentions would have wavered between Nate and Dan for awhile, until she realized that her life’s true calling was to move to the South and become a doctor…wait, no, that’s an entirely different show.
Since I doubt anyone’s ever going to indulge me with the Gossip Girl/OC crossover movie I so clearly think should happen, I’m going to go back to being super excited about Leighton and Adam. (Leidam? Adton? Breester?) If you have any fictional crossover couples you’d love to see, or an idea for a reasonable celebrity couple name for Adam and Leighton, let me know in the comments!
