Olivia Wilde just shared a bunch of behind-the-scenes pictures from Booksmart
There are so many reasons to love Olivia Wilde’s Booksmart: powerful representations of female friendship and sexuality, matching bestie jumpsuits, the chaotic-but-entertaining series of events, and a funny-as-hell cast. What makes our hearts even happier, though, is how much love the cast and crew had for each other behind the scenes. Since production, the film’s leads, Beanie Feldstein and Kaitlyn Dever, have been vocal about their respect and admiration for the film’s director, and Wilde has expressed all the same sentiments right back. Just yesterday, nearly a year since the movie first came out, Wilde took us all on a heartwarming trip down memory lane with a series of nearly 50 tweets loaded with behind-the-scenes goodies.
Her marathon tweeting was part of a live Booksmart watch party, organized for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ interactive #WatchWithTheAcademy campaign. She gave all her followers a heads up before diving into a take-by-take breakdown of the movie writing, “Heyoooo I’m about to dive in and post too much bts info and pics please forgive me and also join me!”

We’re not going to recreate the entire thread here, but we wanted to share some of our favorite bits and pieces, like the fact that the original opening scene involved Molly dancing to Kendrick Lamar’s “Backseat Freestyle.”
The original beginning was Molly dancing to Kendrick Lamar’s Backseat Freestyle while getting dressed and let me tell you @BeanieFeldstein NAILED it but we couldn’t afford the song oops. #watchwiththeacademy pic.twitter.com/1Hpe4ekQDh

There’s also this adorable BTS picture of the cast sharing a very high-school-lunch meal together.
Filmed all this at San Fernando high! #watchwiththeacademy #booksmart pic.twitter.com/t3OPVJehi7

We also loved seeing Wilde hype up Dever’s improvisational skills.
Kaitlyn wrote that song on her auto-harp mere moments before we shot the scene! I don’t understand this level of genius. @KaitlynDever #watchwiththeacademy

Here’s Wilde uplifting yet another talented woman in her film.
Diana Silvers! Iconic intimidating goddess. #watchwiththeacademy pic.twitter.com/JiEpsHa6ya

She also made sure to let us know that she, too, got pounded in the face with a water balloon in that wonderful montage at the end of the film.

That’s a wrap. “Thank you so much for not unfollowing me,” she wrote in her final Booksmart watch party tweet. She also snuck in a clever last line, “Thanks Academy! Where do we pick up our Oscar? Or do you mail it?” We can’t help but think this is a jab at The Academy’s failure to nominate a single woman director at the 2020 Oscars.
Thank you so much for not unfollowing me during this trip down @booksmart memory lane. Going to answer Qs now. Thanks Academy! Where do we pick up our Oscar? Or do you mail it? #watchwiththeacademy pic.twitter.com/Igw58vVb7K

We highly recommend heading to Wilde’s twitter feed and reading every tweet start to finish, while re-watching Booksmart, of course.
