Meet the world’s oldest living cat, officially

The average housecat lives to be about 15 years old. That ain’t nothing if you ask Corduroy, the cat who just turned 26 years old.

Corduroy was confirmed as the oldest living cat by Guinness World Records after having the title usurped in 2014. At that time, Tiffany Two had him beat by about a year, but she sadly passed away recently at 27 years old. So now, Corduroy has reclaimed his place as the oldest living cat.

But let’s be honest, this cat doesn’t look a day over 10. That gorgeous coat, those bright eyes — this feline knows how to age gracefully. Plus, it’s wonderful to know he’s living a healthy, long, and happy life, full of love from the woman who has cared for him since he was just a wee little kitten!

Corduroy was born on August 1, 1989, and was adopted as a kitten by Ashley Reed Okura. She was just seven years old at the time, and the two remain close companions to this day.

“We are thrilled!” Ashley told GWR. “I bought Corduroy a mouse to celebrate … it is wonderful to share him with the world.”

You definitely deserve that mouse, Corduroy! Here’s to many more birthdays, and many more toys!
