Not OK: Fox News hosts tell women they should “cater to their men’s needs”

During Fox News’ Fox & Friends segment on Single Man, Married Man, a newly released book on dating and relationships, the male authors and Fox hosts Clayton Morris and Ainsley Earhardt discuss what women should do to become better, more “dateable” women. Not that Fox News is known for its progression and feminist values, but the entire thing just made me feel really gross and disappointed.

One of the main pieces of advice in Single Man, Married Man (that makes me hope that it’s just one giant parody or SNL prank) is that, “No matter where a woman was in life, she should always be able to cater to her man’s needs.” In reference to this, Morris states, “Ladies, w’ere talking to you. If you still don’t have a New Year’s resolution, could this be it?” Um, no, Clayton Morris. This will definitely NOT be it.

Co-host Ainsley Earhardt added that she too “wants to be a better wife,” and that stroking a man’s ego (so he loves you more), preparing his meals, drawing him a bath, and massaging his feet are all totally reasonable ways to pamper your man and treat him like the king he rightfully is.

YOU GUYS, did we just take some horrible time-machine back to the 1950s? Is this real life? Aside from the book’s blatant heteronormative stance on what a relationship is, it’s belligerently advocating some really outdated, misogynistic advice. It’s almost laughable how horrible and sexist it really is, but also scary because Fox News is still choosing to (seriously) promote it. Clayton Morris solidified his take on the book by saying, “My wife is at home taking notes right now.”
