The women of Ocean’s 8 demanded they pause filming so that Anne Hathaway could pump breast milk, and YES
It’s no secret that we’re certifiably obsessed with the Ocean’s 8 cast. From the movie’s diverse representation of women to the incredible pool of female talent, we’re all about them. And this latest behind-the-scenes story from the set is giving us yet another reason to love these ladies. Apparently, the women of Ocean’s 8 demanded they pause filming so that Anne Hathaway could pump breast milk. And we’re currently giving them a standing O from our desks.
Some of the cast, including Sandra Bullock, Mindy Kaling, Cate Blanchett, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, and Anne Hathaway, recently sat down for an on-camera interview with Today’s Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb. At one point during the discussion, Hathaway mentioned that she was actually still nursing her son when filming began, and initially unsure if she’d be comfortable pumping on set.
"I had that moment where I was like, 'Oh, is this going to be a positive environment to be able to do that in?'" she said during the interview.
She continued, “Everybody was fantastic. I remember there was one moment where we were shooting a little long, and I just kind of went, ‘Uhhh,’ and the girls were like ‘What’s wrong?’ And I said, ‘I’m sorry, I should have pumped an hour ago.’ And the girls just like formed around me, and they were like, ‘We need a break. We need a break. Annie needs to go do this.’ And it was just like, I mean, who gets that?”
Hathaway noted that while she was incredibly grateful for her supportive work environment, that’s ideally how it should be for every woman in every work environment — and we couldn’t agree more.
It’s also not the first time the cast was there for Hathaway during her post-pregnancy experiences. In an interview on The Ellen Show earlier this month, the actress noted that she was initially feeling self-conscious about her post-baby weight when she first got on set.
"I walked on the set, and, you know, my weight's a little up and I'm just aware of it," she told Ellen. "And I walk on the set and I'm in my jeans, and I've done my best and I'm going to love myself no matter what, and Sandy Bullock looks up and goes, 'Looking good, mama!' Cate Blanchett’s like, 'Nice jeans, Hathaway!'"
It’s safe to say that this is easily one of the most empowering movie casts ever, and we can’t wait to see more studio productions take their lead.
