Remember the glory that was ‘Obvious Child’? Well that team is making a TV series!

We were crossing our fingers for another TV series focusing on female friendships and relationships, and our prayers have been answered by the Obvious Child team. The abortion-centric comedy was one of our fave films from last year and launched comedienne Jenny Slate rightfully into the spotlight. Now, she, film co-writer Elisabeth Holm, and writer and director Gillian Robespierre are back at it with a new FX pilot. The premise: Two friends go on a road trip together and “explore the realities of adult female friendship.” Yes, please!

Jokingly summed up as “Thelma and Louise—but nobody dies,” the as-yet-untitled pilot stars Slate and veteran TV and film actress Ari Graynor as “a pair of friends and creative partners who discover each other in their 30s and make a movie together.”

With a premise like that, we’re hoping to see something like a less-NYC-centric, slightly more grown-up Broad City, but with just as many laughs and beautiful, .GIF-able odes to female friendship.

When we first heard the news that Slate was leaving her main cast spot on FX’s Married, we hoped it’d be so she could pursue something else. We couldn’t be happier to see her leading her own show, and we’re even more excited to see that she’s working with her lady squad to do so. Here’s to FX hopefully picking up the show, and to more women leading the way into fearless, funny territory.
