Barack Obama and Donald Trump’s New Year’s tweets were embarrassingly different (for Trump)

We can’t lie—we get a little choked up just thinking about Barack Obama. In our greatest fantasy, he’s still president. And even though he’s not calling the shots anymore, his words continue to inspire us. Obama’s New Year’s message was everything we needed to make us feel like 2019 will be okay…or at least somewhat better than 2018.
"In 2018 people stepped up and showed up like never before," the former president tweeted on January 1st. "Keep it up in 2019. We’ve got a lot of work to do, and I’ll be right there with you. Happy New Year, everybody!"

“I’ll be right there with you.”
Meanwhile, this is the angle our actual POTUS took:

Le sigh. Thankfully, the meme lords went to work, and we ended up with some hilarious replies:

Thank you for keeping us focused on the light, Mr. Obama. (We really, really needed this.) Let’s use his words as a reminder to keep fighting for what’s right in the new year.
