Obama reveals his top sci-fi movies, proving yet again that he’s the cool geek of our dreams
There’s no denying that President Obama is one cool cat. The guy listened to Eminem to get hyped up for his DNC speech, enjoyed an epic birthday party with guests like Ellen and Paul McCartney, and seriously has the best playlists. And today, Wired let us know that he’s proving his awesomeness yet again by revealing his eight favorite sci-fi movies and TV shows, along with his reasons for choosing them.
The list is reportedly titled,”TOMORROWLANDS, A Sci-Fi Viewing List to Expand Your Mind to New Horizons.” Pretty awesome, right? So without further ado, here’s the full list:
2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY
"It captures the grandeur and scale of the unknown."
BLADE RUNNER
"It asks what it means to be human."
CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND
"It is fundamentally optimistic."
THE MARTIAN
"It shows humans as problem solvers."
COSMOS
"It fed my lifelong fascination with space."
THE MATRIX
"It asks basic questions about our reality — and looks cool."
STAR WARS EPISODE IV: A NEW HOPE
"Because it was fun and revolutionized special effects."
STAR TREK (ORIGINAL SERIES)
"It wasn’t actually about technology. It was about values and relationships."
We must say, Obama has some pretty exceptional taste. These choices are all classics that warrant multiple viewings because they’re so layered with meaning (not to mention, look cool AF). Now excuse us while we go and binge watch these immediately.
