“Barack Obama: The Greatest President of All Time” is the Netflix comedy special we deserve
Even though he’s out of office, former president Barack Obama isn’t going gently into that good night. And he definitely isn’t going quietly, either. That’s right, folks, between his March Madness bracket, upcoming tell-all book, and you know, being a husband and a father, the 56-year-old Hawaii native is also getting in on the television game. Specifically, Obama “made a Netflix comedy special,” and it looks like it’s going to be fantastic.
ICYMI: Obama has been in talks with Netflix to make some exclusive content.
Per The New York Times, “Netflix would pay Mr. Obama and his wife, Michelle, for exclusive content that would be available only on the streaming service.” Up until now, though, it’s been unclear what the show, or shows, would be about. But now, we know that the upcoming project is definitely a comedy. Well…maybe in Conan O’Brien’s imagination, that is. Because in a sketch on his late-night show, O’Brien imagined what a comedy special from the former president would look like.
It’s called Barack Obama: The Greatest President of All Time, and it’s full of political (and dad) jokes.
"People ask me what it was like to be the most powerful person in the world," he begins. "And I say, 'I'm not sure. Let me ask Michelle.'"
I mean, talk about an INSTANT CLASSIC. Oh, and it’s hilariously shot like any other comedy special, which is just brilliant.
So clearly, the special isn’t real, and likely won’t ever be, but it’s still pretty hilarious.
Thankfully, (fingers crossed) we’ll have some Obama content coming soon. According to NYT, a possible show idea is one in which “Mr. Obama could moderate conversations on topics that dominated his presidency — health care, voting rights, immigration, foreign policy, climate change.” Additionally, Michelle Obama could have a show in which she talks about health and nutrition.
Until we get official word, though, this comedy parody should tide you over.
