An “electrical fault” turned N.Y.C.’s sky blue last night, and the pictures are eerie AF
Today in “This feels like it could be an X-File” news, the sky over New York City glowed blue last night, December 27th, due to an apparent “electrical fault” in a section of electric equipment in Astoria, Queens. Concerned citizens stopped and stared (and filmed) as a giant blue arc of light emanated into the night’s sky. According to ConEd, the electric company responsible, the issue caused a “transmission disturbance and a sustained electrical arc flash.” An “arc flash,” they explained, is “a visible plasma discharge between two electrodes that is caused by electrical current ionizing gasses in the air.”
Like we said: an X-File (or maybe a job for Ghostbusters?).
The footage of the arc is eerie AF.

RT ConEdison: Last night’s electrical fault caused a sustained electrical arc flash & transmission disturbance. There were no injuries and all the power lines serving the area are stable. We apologize for the disruption to customers. Photo: Wall Street J… pic.twitter.com/znWMiQXxst

Looks like a transformer at the Con Ed plant blew. Fire seems to be out now. Is everyone ok? pic.twitter.com/lydIkhYMy5

And some people have, let’s just say, “alternate theories.”
I love how we see a bright blue light. Is it an electrical arc? No way, it must be the Rise of Cthulhu, aliens, bigfoot wolfboys building fires in New Jersey, no way it could just be electrical. #conspiracynation https://t.co/ue5D1ZRWxe

If the electrical arc that went off in NYC gives anybody super powers I'm gonna be pissed I live in the suburbs. #IWantToHavePowers

1,000,000 video cameras in NYC alone and no footage of the actual power plant?
Aliens.

We’re just glad no one seems harmed by the faulty equipment…or whatever it was.
