The first trailer for Disney’s “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms” is here, and it’s a sugar plum sensation
Christmas is just days away, but Disney is already getting a jumpstart on next year’s holiday season, releasing the enchanting first teaser trailer for Lasse Hallstrom’s The Nutcracker and the Four Realms, a live-action retelling of the iconic E.T.A. Hoffman story, “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King,” as well as the beloved Tchaikovsky ballet adaptation.
While the film may be based on an iconic story, Disney is promising that its version will be something out of our wildest dreams.
Mackenzie Foy stars as Clara, a young woman looking for the key to unlock a box containing a priceless gift from her late mother. At her godfather Drosselmeyer’s (Morgan Freeman) holiday party, Clara stumbles upon a thread that leads her to a parallel world, where she must embark on an adventure across four realms to retrieve the key and restore balance to the world.
“It’s Christmas Eve. The time of mystery, expectations. Who knows what might happen,” Drosselmeyer tells Clara, seemingly hinting at the adventure ahead.
Along the way, Clara encounters the Sugar Plum Fairy (Keira Knightley), who presides over the Land of Sweets, and a young soldier named Phillip (Jayden Fowora-Knight). Plus, Hawthorn (Eugenio Derbez), who oversees the Land of Flowers, and Shiver (Richard E. Grant), who rules the Land of Snowflakes. They assist her on her journey before she must come face-to-face with Helen Mirren’s villainous Mother Ginger, who occupies the mysterious fourth realm.
And this adaptation is more than just a sea of color.
The trailer warns of a looming darkness ahead: “The legend you know has a dark side.”

The Nutcracker and the Four Realms will grand jeté into theaters on November 2nd, 2018.
