The Notorious R.B.G. is getting her own biography

Nearly 20 years after being appointed the role of Supreme Court Justice, Ruth Bader Ginsburg has come to embrace a more unconventional role: Tumblr deity. Thanks to blogger Shana Knizhnik, a Tumblr dubbed “Notorious R.B.G.” was created in 2013 to honor the 81-year-old Justice. Since the blog’s inception, the Tumblr has generated memes, mugs and T-shirts galore.

But with a hip-hop inspired alias like Notorious R.B.G., you can’t just stop at merchandise.

Clearly touched by Ginsburg’s work and pivotal role in women’s rights, Knizhnik has joined MSNBC reporter Irin Carmon in writing Ginsburg’s biography. Notorious R.G.B.: The Life and Times of Ruth Bader Ginsburg will be, in Carmon’s words, “an unobjective and irreverent celebration of Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s life and role in the women’s movement.” Although Ginsburg isn’t directly involved in the making of her biography, she does plan on meeting one of the authors before its release. Ginsburg is, after all, a fan of the Tumblr page.

Whether it’s through memes, mugs or an impassioned biography, it’s refreshing to see an intellectual like Ginsburg being celebrated in our culture. And did we mention? Ginsburg’s work ethic is second to none. At 81, shes’ still on the bench and shows no signs of stopping.

Ginsburg’s biography is due in the fall of 2015.
