We are one hundred percent behind #NotMyAmerica fighting hate with love

We all know the internet can be a dark and scary place (see: basically every comment section ever), but we also know that the internet can be a place where people rally together to promote love and kindness.

Such was the case yesterday. A biker gang planned an anti-Muslim protest outside a Phoenix mosque on Friday, and the community center received violent and threatening letters in the days leading up to the protest.

To fight back against this ignorance and hatred, The Campaign to Take on Hate, a grassroots effort that challenges the prejudice that Arab and Muslim Americans face in America, launched the hashtag #NotMyAmerica. #PhxMosque was offered as a secondary hashtag to even more specifically support the mosque.

As Linda Sarsour, senior strategist for Take On Hate, explained to the Huffington Post, the #NotMy “to drown out the abhorrent comments and supporters of the armed protesters.”

Any plan of attack that involves drowning out hate with love and support is a plan of attack we can one hundred percent get behind. Twitter did not disappoint with this hashtag, rising to the challenge with its overwhelming call to arms for inclusivity.
