This is not a joke: Ted Cruz withdraws from race, basically hands Trump the nomination
Ted Cruz was thought to be the last standing competition against Donald Trump in the fight for the republican nomination, but that’s no longer the case after the Texas senator’s defeat in last night’s Indiana primary. Shortly after Cruz’s loss, he made the following concession to a crowd of supporters:
Although Kasich remains in the race, this means Trump will effectively become the republican nominee, reports The Guardian.
Trump’s response to Cruz’s withdrawal was surprisingly…diplomatic? “Just so you understand, Ted Cruz, I don’t know if he likes me or he doesn’t like me,” Trump said last night, “but he is one hell of a competitor. He is a tough, smart guy. And he has got an amazing future…so I want to congratulate Ted. I know how tough it is.” Just for the record, this is the same Trump who has called Cruz “a nasty guy. Nobody likes him.”
We feel a bit flabbergasted by this news. Mr. Trump is a reality TV star with no background in politics, and has made headlines for his disparaging remarks against women and minorities — all things that would have traditionally guaranteed a candidate’s demise. So: Shrug?
