We’re in love with this campaign that proves there’s no wrong way to be a woman
Pretty much from the moment we’re born, women are bombarded with messages and rules about how to look, act, and talk. We’re not supposed to be too fat, too thin, too loud, too quiet, too dominant, too submissive, too plain, or too beautiful. It’s an exhausting cycle of dos and don’ts that seemingly never ends.
Which is why Denise Bidot, an international plus-size model, has started a campaign to remind us of a simple, important fact: “There’s no wrong way to be a woman.”
According to the official website, the campaign is dedicated to “anyone who has ever been told they aren’t good enough, pretty enough, tall enough, skinny enough, light enough, dark enough or anything in between… Live unapologetically. Own your unique beauty. Claim what being a woman means to you. Only you write the rules!”
The campaign website features a group of 10 women of all ages, shapes, and ethnicities posing for photos and explaining what being a woman means to them. The “There’s No Wrong Way To Be A Woman Class of 2016,” as they’re called, are living proof that we can embrace our differences while coming together to support each other. And that is a beautiful thing.
Denise kicked off the There’s No Wrong Way To Be A Woman campaign by rocking a t-shirt with the phrase at a recent Puerto Rican Day parade. We also love what Denise had to say about the way our culture forces women into categories, and how empowering it can be to break out of those boxes:
Denise invites you to join the campaign by following along on Instagram, using the hashtag #NoWrongWay, and sharing your answer to the question, “What does beautiful mean to you?”
One thing’s for sure: there’s no wrong answer.
