Katie Holmes just explained why there will be no ‘Dawson’s Creek’ reunion. *sad face*
Dawson’s Creek was the quintessential teen show. It showcased drama, friendship, sex, breakups, and family life in a totally relatable way in the late ’90s and early 2000s. So naturally, the show’s fans would like to see a reunion, especially since TV reunions are so hot right now (lookin’ at you, Gilmore Girls, Baby Sitters Club, Parks and Rec).
Unfortunately, Katie Holmes, who played girl-next-door Joey Potter, recently shut down the idea. In the December issue of Ocean Drive magazine, Holmes talked about her life, her family, and her career, which she says is focused on moving forward. When the prospect of a Dawson’s Creek reunion came up, she replied:
“[Dawson’s Creek] was such a special time in all of our lives [but] some things are better when it stays the way it was,” she said regarding any potential reunion. “I would love to get together with everybody, [but] I’m not sure a reunion would be as fulfilling as what we all want it to be. I’m game for anything.”
As Refinery29 points out, every other ’80s and ’90s TV show has has seen a reboot. Full House, 90210, and Gilmore Girls come to mind, and the list goes on. Maybe Holmes will reassess in a few years, but for now, it’s definitely not a priority for her.
James Van Der Beek addressed the idea of a Dawson’s Creek reunion himself a few years ago, on the second season premier of Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23. Playing a fictionalized version of himself, he briefly reunites with Busy Philipps on the show to discuss the idea of a reunion. It seems that one episode is as close to any type of reunion we’ll ever get.
Dawson’s Creek went off the hair in 2003, but has remained a cult favorite in thanks to reruns, Netflix, and the infamous ugly cry Dawson meme, which we’re totally using to express our feelings over this news.
