Huge props to the teen who discovered these never-before-seen Nirvana photos
Just when we thought we’d seen every Nirvana photo the Internet had to offer, a Washington teen has added a big ‘ol gem to the band’s archives.
Last week, Maggie Poukkula casually tweeted photos of her father, Tony Poukkula, performing alongside Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic, and Aaron Bruckhard at a house in Raymond, Washington. When asked whether the photos were taken during Nirvana’s first concert, Maggie did what any responsible teen would do: She asked her dad for confirmation.
Turns out, the photos are, indeed, Nirvana originals that date back to their first concert in 1987. And yes, in case you were wondering, this living room performance does qualify as Nirvana’s first concert. As the story goes, the band performed at Tony Poukkula’s house where Kurt, Krist, and Aaron performed Nirvana originals like “Downer” and “Hairspray Queen.” Tony supplemented the band’s performance playing second guitar on a few Led Zeppelin covers.
Insane, to say the least.
Maggie’s tweet has since gone viral, winning the attention of music mags and diehard Nirvana fans, worldwide. Her reaction?
I mean, she only tweeted pictures of the first concert of the most iconic grunge band in all of history. And, for the record Maggie, your dad is a legend in this own right!
Alright, now that we have a few visual aids (thank you, Maggie), you can also listen to a recording from the band’s first concert, below.
