The Nintendo Switch is about to make gaming on the go easier than ever

When we first heard about the Nintendo Switch, we were intrigued. After all, Nintendo hadn’t made a completely new console in about a decade. The Switch was a big change, but you couldn’t tell just how big it’d be until now.

This week’s Nintendo Switch presentation revealed a new slate of amazing games and formally introduced the console’s total capabilities.

First off, I want to give a big shoutout to the new The Legend of Zelda game, Breath of the Wild. The first new Zelda console game in ages looks like a graphics and gameplay feat. And with the Nintendo Switch, you’ll be able to play it not just at your home TV, but also on the go.

While the console/tablet system itself is cool, that in itself isn’t totally innovative. What is? The system’s innovative controllers, dubbed Nintendo “Joy-Con”s. Review after review shout them out specifically.

In terms of gameplay, they can function vertically, horizontally, together or as separate controllers. The total Nintendo Switch package looks thoughtfully designed and cute. Couple that with new Zelda and Mario games, and we’ve got a winner.

The Nintendo Switch comes out on March 3 and will retail for $299. It’s definitely an investment, and it’s hard to tell if gamers who already have, say, the Nintendo Wii U will make the switch. But for those of us who haven’t gotten a console in a loooong time, maybe the Switch will make us switch back into a gaming mood.
