Grab your cameras—Nikon is offering its photography classes for free right now

If you’re looking to take up a new hobby (or refine an old one) right now, Nikon has you covered. The camera company is offering online photography classes for free throughout the rest of April, so your Instagram game is about to get way more impressive. The online courses usually range from $15 to $50 per class, but Nikon made them free in order to encourage everyone to “make the most of this time” while we’re staying home and practicing social distancing during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

All you have to do to get started is sign in with your first name, last name, an email, and your country. Then, you’ll have access to stream each of the 10 available classes for free.

Whether you already know your way around a DSLR or don’t even know what that is, the “beginner” to “expert” range of classes have something for everyone.

If you’re just looking to dip your toes into the photography world, take the “Fundamentals of Photography” course and get a foundation of the basics. Or maybe you’ve always thought your pet really ought to be Instagram famous, but didn’t know if you could manage it. Try the “Photoshopping Children and Pets” class and get to work. Those chew toy sponsorships will be flooding in.

And while your friends are teaching TikTok dances to their family members, you could be learning “The Art of Making Music Videos” and creating musical masterpieces—but it’s not a competition, of course. You could also take the macro photography class as an excuse to get outside and photograph those flowers that are still blooming despite everything else going on in the world.

“Nikon’s mission has always been to empower creators,” its website says, in announcing the free classes. “In these uncertain times, we can do that by helping creators stay inspired, engaged, and growing.”

With most of us spending a lot more time indoors, we’re probably all consuming more digital content at the same rate. Unless you’re a bookworm through and through, those screen time reports on your phone are probably a bit scary right now. So online photography classes are a great way to flip the switch and get into creating content, whether that’s for your followers or just for yourself.

Whatever you choose, do what makes you happy and do your best to keep your mind and body healthy during these times.
