We have the first image of Nightcrawler from ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’
Though the newest X-Men movie, X-Men: Apocalypse, isn’t out until May of next year (Gah! Can’t wait!), director Bryan Singer is already giving us some major clues about how X-Men: Apocalypse will look and feel. Today, the film’s Twitter account shared a little sneak peek of Kodi Smit-McPhee as Kurt Wagner, AKA Nightcrawler, and oh my gosh — we couldn’t have imagined the young teleporting mutant better ourselves.
Eighteen-year-old Smit-McPhee was recently seen in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and, like his co-star Nicholas Hoult, made his acting debut as an adorable child. He’s barely recognizable in this new photo, sporting head-to-toe blue make-up, prosthetic hands and ears, and some eerie yellow contacts. Oh, and a tail. Obviously. Hopefully, this film will provide some insight into Nightcrawler’s past. Will we get to witness his stint as a Bavarian circus performer?
Alan Cumming (who, FYI, was also in Spice World, but with no blue hair whatsoever) played Nightcrawler in two previous X-Men films, but Apocalypse will be continuing the story started in X-Men: First Class. One of the film’s producers, Simon Kinberg, tweeted about “going back to the 80s,” on the first day of shooting, so it’s safe to assume we will get to see lots more blast-from-the-past costumes, like we did in the most recent X-Men films. Gotta love vintage outfits combined with superpowers!
Many fan-favorite actors will be returning in X-Men: Apocalypse. Jennifer Lawrence will be back kicking butt as Mystique, and James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, and Nicholas Hoult will resume their roles as Professor X, Magneto, and Beast. Besides Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler, there are also a bunch of newcomers to the cast. Olivia Munn (who you will recognize from New Girl) will play Psylock, Ben Hardy will play Archangel, and Sophie Turner will play Jean Grey.
Now, time to use our own X-Men power—patience—and wait for more photos like this one!
