Everyone is very upset about this avocado toast recipe

Remember Guacamole-gate? Of course you do. How could you forget the Internet’s anger after The New York Times published a recipe SUGGESTING that we should add PEAS to our GUACAMOLE?! Well, now it seems we have yet another snack-related controversy on our hands. We can’t help but wonder, “Is 2015 the year of Avocado Scandals?” When will enough be ENOUGH, avocados?

This new crime against guac all started last night, when food goddess Nigella Lawson’s new show Simply Nigella premiered. “Whatever the day, I want food that makes me feel good not just when I’m eating it, but when I’m cooking it too,” she said. “Simply Nigella is about dishes that do just that — recipes that relax and restore; uplift and enrich.” Same, Nigella. Same.

Everything was going as planned during Episode 1 – there was delicious food and Lawson’s signature, sultry, yet calming voice – when the host announced that she’d be making avocado toast. “I’m fully aware that avocado toast isn’t a recipe,” Lawson explained, “but it’s part of the fabric of my life. I’m ready to eat it no matter what the time of day.”

Unfortunately, viewers did not feel the same:

Despite these fervent criticisms, Nigella reacted with a simple response:

While avocado toast is quite a simple recipe, the simplest recipes are sometimes the best, ya know? And we do have to admit that her recipe has us intrigued, especially since she added radishes into the mix and now we’re wondering what this delicious concoction tastes like.

Then again, what do you think? Is this an avoca-do? Or, an avoca-don’t? Honestly, we feel great about avocado in every and all forms (except maybe without the peas. Never do that to us AGAIN, NYT).
