The new Nicole Kidman project we’re super excited about
Coming soon to a TV near you: Nicole Kidman. The Oscar winning actress has just signed on to appear in the second season of the mini-series Top of the Lake. Also let this serve as your reminder to binge Top of the Lake.
The mini-series aired one season way back in 2013, which now feels like FOREVER ago. It gained huge acclaim and earned star Elisabeth Moss an Emmy nod for her role as Detective Griffin, and actually snagged her a Golden Globe last year for the role. Well now it seems the show is adding Kidman to its roster.
The haunting and beautiful Season 1 of the series is on Netflix right now and follows Detective Griffin (Moss) as she attempts to solve the case of a missing pregnant teenager in her isolated New Zealand hometown.
Season 2 will find Robin in Sydney, Australia, and that’s where Kidman’s new character comes in. As she explained to The Daily Mail, this role was written specifically for Kidman by Top of the Lake showrunner/creator, Jane Campion. There are so far no details whatsoever about the character that have been made public, aside from the fact that Kidman offered up that she likes “playing odd people, who live odd lives.”
The next season of Top of the Lake is expected to go into production this December, with a release sometime in 2016. Sure, the new season might be three years late, but we’re willing to wait. Especially now that it looks like it will be a Moss/Kidman match up.
