Nicole Kidman opened up about how her Emmy nomination might mean more “Big Little Lies”
After snapping up an Emmy nomination yesterday, Nicole Kidman has been chatting Big Little Lies, and whether the nomination could lead to a second season.
Of course, Big Little Lies has been one of the breakout hits of this year’s new crop of TV shows. The Reese Witherspoon-produced drama aired on HBO, and people were totally gripped. What’s more, the show’s ambiguous season finale left us with loads of burning questions, and it seemed that we might just be getting a second season.
However, Kidman, who played Celeste Wright in the mini-series, seemed to squash any talk of returning to Monterey to find out what happens next.
That was until she was nominated for an Emmy for her role in the hit drama.
Yesterday, it was announced that Kidman scored an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie for Big Little Lies, and now she’s teasing that *actually* Season 2 might be a possibility.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly following the nominations, Kidman said that she felt the series, which was nominated for 16 awards in total, had really connected with people. “It’s just unheard of! It’s a shared victory and a shared joy,” she said.
The actor revealed that the nominations mean that a second season of the show is looking ever more likely.
“It inches us closer [to a second season],” Kidman said. “But so much of it is trying to stay true to the characters and their voices. If we can do it, then it will be done. I believe their stories warrant it and I don’t want to abandon them. We don’t want to sell them short, either.”
"But I’m hoping we can find it if we take the leap," she added.
Okay, so while this isn’t a confirmation, it does show that the cast is definitely interested in returning. What’s more, we know that the author of the book on which the show was based, Liane Moriarty, has been involved in talks with Witherspoon about what could be next for the characters.
While a second season would be nice, we’re so happy for everyone involved with Big Little Lies for picking up so many nominations yesterday. You deserve it!
