Nicki Minaj is the biggest fan of the new Zendaya Barbie

It’s important for young girls to grow up with images that look like them — whether it’s an actress on TV, a supermodel on a runway or a doll on the shelf. So when diversity is spread, we rejoice! This weekend, Zendaya met her Barbie doll for the first time, and celebrated everything it stands for.

Introducing: Zendaya Barbie! The doll is inspired by her chic Oscars look.

“When I was little I couldn’t find a Barbie that looked like me,” the singer wrote on Instagram. “My… how times have changed. Thank you @barbie for this honor and for allowing me to be apart [sic] of your diversification and expansion of the definition of beauty.” Zendaya modeled with the doll, captioning the pic with the princess emoji in every skin tone. Perfect!

Since Zendaya’s Barbie was announced, the response has been so positive and empowering. One of the doll’s biggest supporters was Nicki Minaj, who had a doll dedicated to her back in 2011 (and is a “Barb” of her own). The singer took to Instagram to cheer for Zendaya.

“I love your doll’s hair!” Nicki wrote on Instagram. “I love what it means for other little girls who will identify with it & be empowered.” She followed up the post with a side-by-side of the dolls, suggesting, “they should have matching bff Barbie cars with the dreamhouse to match.”

The Barbie nails Zendaya’s look, from her jewelry to her off-the-shoulder dress to her dreadlocks. We’re so happy for Zendaya, and excited for the diverse addition to the Barbie lineup!
