Nicki Minaj made a speech about insecurities, and it was way too relatable
On Sunday night, Busy Philipps posted an Instagram story from the 2017 Los Angeles Fashion Awards, whispering to her fans that she was super intimidated to be at a party like that, surrounded by the likes of Kim Kardashian and Nicki Minaj. Later in her story, Philipps shares that she had to leave after presenting an award to go home and make mac and cheese for her kids. Funny enough, just as Philipps was confiding into her smartphone that she was scared AF to talk in front of all those super glam people, Nicki Minaj gave a speech about her own insecurities in the entertainment industry that would have likely made Philipps feel better. Stars: They get social anxiety, too.
Minaj, decked out in a black sleeveless Versace dress and boots, took the stage to accept the Fashion Rebel Award, which was very fitting. The 34-year-old began by sharing an anecdote about the first time she met Anna Wintour. Her publicist called her and said that some “super influential lady” in fashion wanted Minaj to be her date for New York Fashion Week shows. “I want to say thank you to Anna. A lot of people gave me a shot early on in my career, and I would just like to recognize some of those people who were just amazing,” she said.
But then she got really really about what it takes to be a “fashion rebel.” It’s not easy. Minaj said:
"We all have insecurities. I want to say, shout-out to all of the kick-ass women, not only in this room, but all around the world. You know what, we win and fail in the public eye. That's not easy to do. People think they know what it requires. People think they can do it. Everybody wants to walk in your shoes, until you put them in your shoes."
Frankly, walking in Minaj’s or Kim Kardashian’s shoes does not look easy at all (So. Much. Heel!), but we get her point.
Minaj added:
"It takes guts, it takes balls to fail and to make mistakes in the public eye, and to read s--tty comments about yourself every f--king day and to still have a beautiful f--king smile on your f--king face. I love you guys so much for believing in me. I took some time off to rest, and now it's game time, bitches."

We hope Busy Philipps watched it, too. Just so she knows she wasn’t alone on Sunday night.
