Nicki Minaj has a comedy TV series in the works, and we can’t wait for it

Nicki Minaj fans, this week is truly glorious. Why? Because yesterday, we found out that our girl Nicki is going to be involved in an ABC Family television show. She’ll be producing. And starring. And it will be a semi-autobiographical comedy. So like, all the good things.

The currently-untitled series will be shooting in Queens this winter, and the pilot will be written by Will and Grace‘s Kate Angelo. “The half-hour comedy is based on Minaj and her family’s immigration from Trinidad in the early 1990s,” ABC Family said in a statement. “It will focus on her growing up in Queens with her vibrant family and the personal and musical evolution that led to her eventual rise to stardom.”

“This is one of the more unique adventures I’ve ever embarked on,” Nicki said in a statement. “I couldn’t be more proud and excited to team up with an amazing group of people to give the world something really special.”

Nicki announced her big news via the hashtag #NickiSurprise on Twitter yesterday. According to her, the project has been in the works for almost a year. She has officially launched a “nation-wide” search to find the perfect actress to play the younger version of herself. (Big shoes to fill!)

Naturally, a ton of people have a lot to say about who’s going to play #YoungNicki, and Nicki’s been tackling a bunch of them with encouraging responses:

“Nicki is an international superstar,” said Karey Burke, the executive vice president of programming and development at the network, according to New York Times, “yet not everyone knows how inspiring and hilarious her true story is, and we can’t wait to share it with the world.”

The entire thing screams “YAAAAS QUEEN.” You go, Nicki, and we cannot WAIT to see the amazingness that unfolds.
