Nick Carter just hit us with all those BSB nostalgia feels

Last week, we were all happy-sad crying because *NSYNC turned 20. Yes, *NSYNC is two decades old. Where has the time gone?! Now, we’re getting hit with a blast of ’90s nostalgia once again, but it has to do with our other fave boy band from our childhood: Backstreet Boys.

Nick Carter, who is now 35, recently signed up to be on Dancing With The Stars. And no, it turns out that he wasn’t saving his fabulous Backstreet Boys moves from his boy band past until the finals. That’s right: he and his partner, Sharna Burgess, decided to dedicate their “Most Memorable Year” performance to 1996 — the year he met his former bandmates Howie Dorough, Brian Littrell, Kevin Richardson, and AJ McLean. In a pre-taped package for the show, his bandmates appeared to talk about Nick and his rocky past — and how performing saved his life.

Joining the Backstreet Boys was pivotal for Nick, who came from a “dysfunctional family,” he said in the clip through tears. “There was a lot of fighting in our household, and it broke my heart, I never could fix my family,” he explained. “I really wanted to have that movie mom and dad. . . it was hard for me. The boys saved me – they loved and treated me like a true brother.”

“He was a very talented, extremely talented guy, but he had a pretty rough childhood,” AJ explained in the clip about his bandmate. “Most of his friends that he grew up with are either dead now or in jail. . . Nick used performing and the arts and music to kind of get him out of that environment.” As an ode to his bandmates — and his true friends — Nick and Sharna danced to “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back).” And they totally ROCKED it. We felt all the ’90s flashbacks and couldn’t help but dance along.

Check out the entire performance below and be prepared to feel ALL the emotions. You go, Nick — Backstreet’s back, all right!
