Will Ferrell and Molly Shannon are still making us laugh, even decades after they were both on Saturday Night Live together. After a successful, absurdist time hosting The Rose Parade for Amazon Prime in January, Will Ferrell and Molly Shannon are hosting a Royal Wedding special for HBO. In character. As made-up TV announcers. Because of course that’s happening.
Ferrell and Shannon will be back as Cord Hosenbeck and Tish Cattigan for The Royal Wedding Live With Cord and Tish! which will air on HBO and is produced by Funny or Die.
The special will air twice. First, it will stream at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 19th, to coincide with the 2018 Royal Wedding in real time. It will then air at 9:45 p.m. that night, and presumably be available on demand to revisit later. Per The Hollywood Reporter, former SNL costar Tim Meadows (and others!) will guest star on the broadcast. We don’t know if they’ll be playing themselves or additional fictional characters. It will probably be a delightful, uniquely weird gem either way.
In case you missed the Rose Parade broadcast, here’s a little more information about the fictional TV hosts:
Hey, when Will Ferrell and Molly Shannon do something, they don’t do it halfway.
The Royal Wedding Live With Cord and Tish! should definitely make for memorable programming. Also, from the Rose Parade to the Royal Wedding? Not a bad leap at all. Who knows what they’ll be asked to announce next. May we suggest something involving puppies?
