With the 2018 Oscars ceremony less than an hour away, all eyes are on Jimmy Kimmel (rather, what Kimmel will say or do as the presenter of the Oscars this year — for the second time in a row). Jimmy Kimmel’s wife will most likely be by his side while they walk on the Red Carpet together (or at the very least in the crowd cheering him on), since it’s such a big night for him. So… Who is she?

In 2013, Kimmel married Molly McNearney, who has been a co-head writer of Jimmy Kimmel Live! since 2008, according to Vanity Fair. If you like some of Kimmel’s jokes from tonight, you can probably thank McNearney, as she is a co-head writer of the Oscars. Sorry to burst your bubble, but Kimmel doesn’t actually write all of his Oscar jokes. At least he keeps it in the family, though, because if Kimmel didn’t write it, the chances are that McNearney did. Kimmel’s wife helped co-write the 2017 Oscars telecast as well.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, McNearney gave a glimpse into her writing process for the awards shows. “Last year, we had to figure out what our balance was, with how much was too much Trump,” McNearney said. She continued, “This year, it’s probably going to be that, plus sexual harassment.”

Knowing that a woman will be in the writer’s room to write the Oscar’s best sexual harassment jokes should set you at ease.

You’ve probably heard more about McNearney recently because Kimmel has used his show as a platform to talk about son’s health issues. Last May, Kimmel spoke about Billy’s heart defect and an emergency lifesaving surgery. Kimmel used his story to express the importance of making healthcare more affordable and available for everyone.

McNearney also shared her perspective on her child’s health issues in a moving essay for The Hollywood Reporter. “I don’t necessarily like that everyone knows what’s going on with the health of my child,” the writer said. She continued, “It’s scary to make yourself vulnerable the way we have, but the encouragement that we’re helping other people far outweighs my fears about our lack of privacy.”

It sounds like McNearney is just as bold (if not bolder) as her husband. We can’t wait to hear the jokes she has in store for the 2018 Oscars.
